Sue and Poppy’s Labour Party priorities for Burpham.

  • NO to plans that increase traffic down residential roads.
  • Clean up our air – better monitoring of traffic pollution, thicker hedging.
  • Create even better green spaces for children, youth, sports and leisure.
  • More activities and facilities for young people.
  • A bigger say in developing small- and medium-sized housing, including affordable homes for the young people of Burpham.
  • Fix our roads – potholes, standing water and congestion.

Dear Resident

Burpham has grown rapidly from a farming village to a busy gateway to Guildford. Unless we plan carefully, the character of Burpham will be lost under the weight of traffic, the Aldi traffic jam and the Conservative council’s proposal for a dual             carriageway along London Road.

We like Aldi, but our main road is not the place for a car park queue.  We advocate another budget supermarket on the other side of town so that customers shop locally and eastbound traffic is reduced.

And we need protection from the traffic fumes and tyre particles.  A   simple, cheap and beautiful solution was given to the community association by Professor Kumar: plant ‘green walls’ of shrub and bush along the roads, and lay walking paths through the park to avoid kerbside pollution.

We support the efforts of the Burpham Community Association and would work closely with it in your best interests.
