Guildford Labour Party It's time for Labour in Guildford
On Thursday June 21st Baroness Shami Chakrabarti addressed a meeting of around 50 Guildford Labour Party members at the University of Law. Shami Chakrabarti, who was trained as a barrister, is now Shadow Attorney General and previously Director of Liberty.
She entered high level politics at a relatively late stage in her career and talked candidly about why she made this change and the difficulties she has had coming to grips with it. In a wide ranging talk she made it clear that she could not separate being a feminist from being a socialist and emphasised her belief that one person can make a difference. She then spent over half an hour answering questions and discussing the current political scene.
At the end of the meeting Guildford Labour Chair Richard Mithen presented her with a photograph of Satyendra Prasanna Sinha, 1st Baron Sinha, the first Asian to be made a hereditary Peer.
