One hundred years ago the Representation of the People Act was passed, giving the vote to some women for the first time. To celebrate the centenary of this event the women of Guildford are holding a Walk for Suffrage as part of Guildford Walkfest. Part of the route will trace the path of the Great Pilgrimage, the huge march supporting women’s suffrage that passed through Guildford in 1913.

Organiser Amanda Creese said “This is a great opportunity for the women of Guildford of all ages to came and remember the huge sacrifices that our predecessors made in order to get the vote.”

The walk takes place on Saturday September 8th and starts at Artington Park & Ride at 11.30 and finishes in the High Street. Period costume, banners and appropriate placards are not obligatory! And as 100 years ago, men are entirely welcome to join the walk in support of the women’s suffrage.
