Conference was assured that the Leader’s position on Brexit and endorsed by NEC wouldn’t block further discussion or other motions.

A one day special Conference to decide will be held. Unity is very important for our movement and the need to support Jeremy was emphasised. The Brexit motion was presented by Yasmin Dar CLP delegate on NEC. It’s interesting to note that 2 deadlines are mentioned: 3 months and 6 months respectively for negotiation of the deal and the referendum.

The afternoon was chaired by Wendy Nichols in the session called “New Internationalism”.

Emily Thornberry took the floor immediately referencing her 2 year shadowing Boris during his time as Foreign Secretary (the only ministerial position he’s ever held). His laziness, lack of integrity and incompetence were noted by her at first hand.

Labour has a duty as an internationalist party has a duty to be keepers of our brothers and sisters all over the world according to Mandela, similar to the message from Greta Thunberg on global climate change. Strong man politics is abhorrent. India, Cameroon, Brunei, all down to the influence of Trump supposedly Leader of the Free World. UK relationship with Saudi Arabia must be revoked, with all the Yemeni children who’ve died as a result. Ray of hope with Ardern in New Zealand and Ramaphosa in South Africa and new generation of progressive politicians in the United States.

The arms trade of British made weapons cannot be used to kill children. Reparations to be paid to African and Asian soldiers who fought on side of Britain. £50,000 will be paid for nuclear test victims. Labour stands for striving for peace and staying in the EU.
It’s interesting to note that CLP delegates from Labour International (those living abroad) were present in numbers and able to vote on Brexit. They clearly supported the NEC /Leaders motion on Brexit.

Elizabeth Mpyisi attended the policy seminar on the holistic and imperative of involving qualified social workers in the resolution of family issues of people with mental health issues.

The statistics of suicide among young people point to the need of social workers being introduced into finding solutions not just psychologists or psychiatrists. Labour will join the dots.
