The Conservatives have run Guildford Borough Council for too long and a sense of fatigue has set in. They take their power for granted.

Major decisions are made by a tiny number of leading Conservatives and even their own councillors feel that their voices aren’t heard. Some have resigned.

Too much of your council tax money is spent on vanity projects such as the failed ‘Village’ in North Street which saw £1.2m wasted before it was abandoned; an expensive junket to Dongying in China; and the £1m+ spent so far on the bridge from nowhere to nowhere near Bedford Wharf. There are better ways to serve taxpayers than this!

Guildford Labour will take a different approach.

  • We will give more weight to local opinion, especially with regard to large-scale developments.
  • We will be completely open about how decisions are made.
  • We will put the everyday needs of people first: decent housing; quicker repairs; good services and help when you need it.
