I would like to say a big thank you for all your help in our general election campaign. Whether it was canvassing, leafleting, coming along to one of our events, or simply speaking to friends, neighbours and family about the Labour Party and how important it is to vote Labour at the election, I am really grateful.
As you know, we had a good result, increasing our vote by over 4000 to 10,545, our best result here for over 30 years. We could not have achieved this without all the hard work of so many of you.
It was a great honour to be the candidate in this election representing the Labour Party in the town where I was born and brought up. I believe we fought a very honest campaign on the important issues that matter to people in Guildford - funding for both our schools and health service, and measures to deal with the housing crisis. I am very proud of our team who put in so much in order that we could achieve such a good result.
Given the overall result in the election there may well be another quite soon and I'm certain this will be the one which will result in next Labour government. So it's important that we keep the momentum going in the constituency to contribute to that success. As other results in the country have shown, it is entirely possible for Labour to win in Guildford, but it will take persistence, determination and hard work.
