Guildford Constituency Labour Party would like to congratulate the partnership between The Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust and Procare Health, the Guildford and Waverley GP Federation, in winning the Adult Community Health Services contract with affect from April 2018. The partnership was successful in beating the incumbent, Virgin Care, who had held the contract since 2012.
We are especially delighted that local NHS organisations have won the right to take back control of district nurses and community matrons in Guildford and Waverley. Guildford Labour sees this as an opportunity to keep General Practice at the heart of local patient care and to re-integrating district nurse and community matrons back within the primary care family.
It is estimated that at the start of 2016, Virgin Care held around 400 NHS contracts, and Virgin currently run 45 NHS services in Surrey.
Guildford Labour feels this situation in incompatible with a publicly owned service which should run for the benefit of the citizens of the UK, and not for shareholders. We therefore welcome any move that allows NHS providers to concentrate on providing high quality service for our local residents, which is universal, equitable, comprehensive, high quality, free at the point of delivery, and centrally funded. These were the founding principles of the NHS when created by The Labour Party in 1948.
We wish our local GPs and local hospital trust every success with this exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of our residents in need.
