Guildford North

Anne Rouse – Guildford North

I have lived in Stoughton for 27 years and during that time have involved myself in local community events from co-running a mother and toddler group at Emmanuel church to volunteering at Shepherd’s Hill nursery and being a governor at Stoke Hill School.

I have been a Chair of Governors at the Dene Nursery School (now Guildford Children’s Centre) and was a Governor at Boxgrove School in Merrow for 16 years.

During my time at Boxgrove we grew from a one form entry to a two form entry school which was always oversubscribed. One of my proudest moments came a couple of years ago when the school expanded to a three form entry and named one of the buildings the “Rouse Building” as a thank you for my service. I am passionate about education and will fight to improve funding for local school so they no longer have to lose valuable staff because of cuts to their budget.

As well as my community work I also had my own business for 25 years as a bookkeeper and accountant for several small businesses based in Guildford, so I fully understand the impact of some of the recent changes brought about by the Government and the impact it will have on small businesses in the area. It illustrates perfectly how little the current chancellor understands the pressures felt by small business owners and adds another financial burden which stops those businesses growing.

I am standing in Guildford North because I want to represent the concerns of the people who live here; to remind local people how not only has the Tory party failed Guildford in terms of housing, roads and social care but they have also had very little impact on what matters to the people of Stoughton and Stoke.  I have already heard from local residents, who told me of their concerns regarding anti-social behaviour and the feeling that they have lost a sense of community. Many residents are also very worried about the street lights being turned off – leaving them with a feeling of vulnerability when they come home late.

Recently I have spoken to a resident in Stoughton who is looking for volunteers to join him in setting up a Renter’s Association to help protect private renters. If this is something you be interested in joining, please e-mail me and I will pass your details on.

I will be coming to talk to as many residents as I can to find out what is important to them and promise that if I am elected to serve this community I will fight for what our community needs. Please feel free to get in contact with me with your own thoughts and issues.
